New Jewish Narrative Welcomes Introduction of SANCTIONS in the West Bank Act (12-12-2024)

December 12, 2024- New Jewish Narrative welcomes the introduction of the SANCTIONS in the West Bank Act to codify President Biden’s February 2024 Executive Order imposing sanctions on individuals undermining peace, security, and stability in the West Bank. Led by Senator Peter Welch and Representative Summer Lee, the bill would permanently establish the mechanism through which perpetrators of settler violence are held accountable. This bicameral legislation is a significant step that underscores the United States' commitment to peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Executive Order 14115 was an unprecedented step by the Biden administration that has imposed sanctions on some of the most violent extremist settlers, outposts and organizations, and began to cut off the funding sources for their movement, including crowdfunding websites. By codifying the executive order and establishing comprehensive sanctions on bad actors, this bill protects the executive order from future presidential administrations.

New Jewish Narrative President and CEO, Hadar Susskind, said “Settlements themselves are an impediment to peace, and the rampant settler violence that has exploded over the past year illustrates the worst of them. I’m grateful to Senator Welch, Representative Lee, and all of their colleagues who are standing up for American policy priorities and American values.”
