Netanyahu’s Airstrikes are an Effort to Stay in Power
March 18, 2025- Overnight, the Israeli military began a campaign of airstrikes targeting Gaza, reportedly killing more than 400 people.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could have made the choice to continue the ceasefire. He could have made the choice to prioritize the lives of the Israeli hostages still in captivity. He could have made the choice to strive to build a new government in Gaza where Hamas is sidelined. He could have made the choice to move towards peace.
Instead, he chose the path of violence. The announcement this morning that Ben Gvir’s extremist Jewish Power party is now returning to the Netanyahu government shows us that, once again, Netanyahu's decision was a choice to put his political survival ahead of the lives of the hostages or Israeli security needs.
“Over 400 Palestinian men, women and children were killed. And who knows how many Israeli hostages. Netanyahu’s government failed on October 7, and his efforts to cling to power are an ongoing failure to fulfill his responsibilities to the Israeli people,” said Hadar Susskind, President and CEO of New Jewish Narrative.
