Statement: Donald Trump’s Inauguration (Jan 21 2025)

The very first day of their administration has made absolutely clear what President Trump and his team stand for and believe in. They believe in bigotry, they believe in discrimination, and they believe that they and their allies are unaccountable to anyone and anything but their own desires.

The President issued an Executive Order rescinding dozens of EOs that President Biden has issued. These include, among others, the sanctions placed on violent settlers and the organizations that support them. Removing the settler violence Order is giving a green light to the very worst elements of Israeli society and sending a clear message that the Trump administration supports their annexationist agenda and the violent means by which they pursue it.

And is if to prove that he supports violence both foreign and domestic, Trump pardoned, commuted the sentences, or threw out the cases against over 1,500 people who had been charged for their roles in the January 6th insurrection. In doing so he, while Israeli hostage families sat nearby, referred to these violent seditionists as “J 6 hostages”.

Day one actions also included withdrawing the US from the Paris climate agreement, removing legal protections “preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation”, attacking legal immigrants to the US, and so much more.

And lest you think it was all President Trump, yesterday also included Elon Musk (repeatedly) giving the nazi salute at the inauguration. While some, including the ADL, have tried to claim that it was anything other than that, it is notable that Musk himself has not done so. All he needed to do was to say, “it was absolutely not a Nazi salute”. But for whatever reason, he just can’t bring himself to do so.

It doesn’t matter if you are an advocate for peace, immigration rights, LGBTQ equality, or any of the other important issues on the side of justice, we are all under siege. But, and this is crucial to remember, we are together. And together we will continue to strive for justice. Together, we will refuse to bow to those who wield cruelty and hatred, even if they are in power.

Together, we will struggle, we will fight, and we will rise!
